The Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation was awarded grants for land acquisition by the San Diego River Conservancy (SDRC), an independent and non-regulatory state agency. In July 2024, the MTRP Foundation donated 55 acres of acquired land to the City of San Diego to add to Mission Trails and made its second land donation in March 2025, bringing the total acreage donated by the MTRP Foundation to date to 108 acres.
