Eco Ambassadors Program for Teens at Mission Trails Regional Park

The Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP) Foundation is excited to announce the launch of a new education program for teens who love the outdoors and may seek careers in nature-related fields.

The Eco Ambassadors program will offer inspiring programming at the park to a cohort of 20 high school students on Sunday afternoons in spring 2023. With the MTRP Visitor Center as their learning hub, the teens will hear from speakers about different aspects of Mission Trails, explore topics related to nature and conservation, and build community around environmental stewardship. The students will learn about local ecosystems, monitoring techniques, and collaborate with peers on projects.

Thanks to a generous grant from SDGE, three groups of 20 students will participate in the Eco Ambassadors program this year. The first Eco Ambassadors session begins on April 2, with additional sessions coming this fall.

The Eco Ambassadors program is free and open to high school students in San Diego County. There is an application process through which the 20 cohort members will be selected, and youth of color, LGBTQ+, and individuals of all abilities are encouraged to apply. Applications are due on February 28 and accepted candidates will be notified on March 10. The program will primarily take place on Sunday afternoons from 1-4PM, between April 2 and June 4, 2023; there will be two online weeknight evening programs. More information about the session schedule is available through the application link.
