In spring 2023, the Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP) Foundation launched a new education program for teens who love the outdoors and may seek careers in nature-related fields.
The free Eco Ambassadors program offers inspiring programming at the park to cohorts of 20 high school students. With the MTRP Visitor Center as their learning hub, the teens hear from speakers about different aspects of Mission Trails, explore topics related to nature and conservation, and build community around environmental stewardship. The students learn about local ecosystems, monitoring techniques, and collaborate with peers on projects.
Thanks to a generous grant from SDGE, three groups of 20 students will participate in the Eco Ambassadors program between spring 2023 and spring 2024, meeting primarily on Sunday afternoons.
The Eco Ambassadors program is free and open to high school students in San Diego County. There is an application process through which the 20 cohort members will be selected, and youth of color, LGBTQ+, and individuals of all abilities are encouraged to apply. Applications for the Winter/Spring 2024 session may be submitted through December 15, 2023.
