Eco Ambassadors Program for Teens at Mission Trails Regional Park

In spring 2023, the Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP) Foundation launched a new education program for teens who love the outdoors and may seek careers in nature-related fields.

The free Eco Ambassadors program offers inspiring programming at the park to cohorts of 20 high school students. With the MTRP Visitor Center as their learning hub, the teens hear from speakers about different aspects of Mission Trails, explore topics related to nature and conservation, and build community around environmental stewardship. The students learn about local ecosystems, monitoring techniques, and collaborate with peers on projects.

The program takes place from noon to 4pm on Sunday afternoons, and the Winter 2024 session will run from Sunday, January 28 through Sunday, March 17.

The Eco Ambassadors program is free and open to high school students in San Diego County. There is an application process through which the 20 cohort members will be selected, and youth of color, LGBTQ+, and individuals of all abilities are encouraged to apply. Students must be able to attend each session in order to participate in the program.
