In the spring of 2023, the Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP) Foundation launched a new education program for teens who love the outdoors and are interested in exploring various paths towards a nature-related career.
The free Eco Ambassadors program offers inspiring programming at the park to cohorts of 30 high school students. With the MTRP Visitor Center as their learning hub, the teens hear from speakers about different aspects of Mission Trails, explore topics related to nature and conservation, and build community around environmental stewardship. The students learn about local ecosystems, research methods, and skills that help with presentation.
Applications for the Spring 2026 Eco Ambassador program will open before the season begins. Please check back for the specific date.
The Eco Ambassadors program is free and open to high school students in San Diego County. There is an application process through which the 20 cohort members will be selected, and youth of color, LGBTQ+, and individuals of all abilities are encouraged to apply. Students must be able to attend each session as a requirement to participate in the program.
Eco Ambassadors is generously supported by SDGE. For more information about the program, please contact the MTRP Foundation’s Education and Outreach Coordinator, Jonathan Serna, at jserna@mtrp.org.
