Wild Read Book Club
February 25 @ 1:30 PM
1:30PM until 2:45PM
Do you enjoy friendly conversation, reading for pleasure, and meeting new people? Are you interested in a new spin on exploring the natural world? Would you enjoy sharing nature through the adventure of reading? If yes, join the pack at WILD READ BOOK CLUB! This is a free, nature-related book club for adults. Whether that nature is found in an urban backyard, or hidden among the deepest canyon walls; we will share observations from “wild reads.” Hosted by Park Rangers at Mission Trails Regional Park.
Every 5 weeks, a new environmentally-themed book will be selected and information emailed to book club participants. After reading the selected book, group members come together at Mission Trails Visitor Center to share thoughts, discuss the book, have a cup of tea, and connect with good folks. Group discussions will be guided by a Park Ranger. Light refreshments will be provided. After the program, some may wish to explore the many spectacular trails and natural beauty of the open space park at Mission Trails.
February Book Club Meeting: Join Park Ranger Rebecca Smart at Mission Trails Visitor Center Sunday, February 25th at 1:30PM. Meeting location is the beautiful Visitor Center Library – One Father Junipero Serra Rd, San Diego, 92119.
February Book Selection to Read: At our February 25th meeting, we will discuss the classic book DESERT SOLITAIRE by EDWARD ABBEY. City & County Libraries can provide free copies of the book to borrow if you request it. Below is a description of the book & author:
“Desert Solitaire is a collection of vignettes about life in the wilderness and the nature of the desert itself by park ranger and conservationist, Edward Abbey. The book details the unique adventures and conflicts the author faces, from dealing with the damage caused by development of the land or excessive tourism, to discovering a dead body. However Desert Solitaire is not just a collection of one man’s stories, the book is also a philosophical memoir, full of Abbey’s reflections on the desert as a paradox, at once beautiful and liberating, but also isolating and cruel. Desert Solitaire is a powerful discussion of life’s mysteries set against the stirring backdrop of the American southwestern wilderness.”
